  1. My father’s firm was Koblik, Cordova and Gervin. They specialized in building schools. The schools were distinctive because of wide, covered walkways and interior walls with windows that allowed for cross ventilation and natural lighting. He incorporated “green” concepts into his designs. You can travel the valley and foothill communities and see these schools.

Before plans were drawn, he would go and interview the teachers or homeowners so that he could provide a structure where “form followed function,” a Bauhaus concept. Many older schools in the Folsom-Cordova School District were his designs, and I was lucky enough to teach in some of them.

William Koblik was a part of the consortium that built the Sacramento Convention Center. As treasurer, he was proud that it was completed early and under budget.

  2. Thanks for your great comments, Carole; am looking forward to meeting you in person as we discussed. Hope you can make it to the tour; I'll make sure you get a copy of the guidebook either way. You may recall we're highlighting two of your dad's projects in our neighborhood: the Novack residence and South Hills Shopping Center.

  3. Gretchen, Kris, Michael, and Alan,

Congratulations on a great job of putting together the first Sacramento Mid-Century Home Tour. As the family that has built most of the mid-century homes in the Sacramento area, we are gratified to see you promoting the great arhitecture of Carter Sparks and other area architects. My wife and I will be out of town on a charity bike ride down the coast and won't be able to attend. We wish you a good turnout and a great day Saturday. I have posted a link to your site on my Streng Bros. Homes website hoping to bring more visitors to your tour.
Thank you for all of your hard work and opening your homes to the public. Have fun on Saturday.
