Thanks for helping support a great cause!

The Sacramento Mid-Century Modern Home Tour is proud to support our neighbors at the Short Center South. We were able to donate a $3,000 from this year's tour and received a really nice handmade card.

The Short Center South is a day program that serves adults with developmental disabilities. The Center offers classes in a studio setting, taught by artists working in their own disciplines. Classes include drawing, painting, ceramics, mosaics, photography, music, dance, theatre, textiles, crafts, sign language, reading, computers, physical education/exercise and classes that further social skills and personal growth.

If you haven't visited their studios and seen their artwork, check them out. You probably have already seen their work around town; they recently completed a public mural that is displayed on Franklin Boulevard. For more information about their work, see their website, Facebook and Twitter pages.

Many thanks to all of you who participated and contributed.

  1. What a fantastic use of the funds, and something that is near and dear to my heart! My late mother actually has a school named for her in Jackson California (Marilkn K Triglia), that serves the developmently disabled. Her, and our entire family, volunteered for years at youth camps, schools, etc. Awesome cause Gretchen!

  2. Thanks Michael - I had no idea that your mom's legacy was honored by having a school named after her. It feels good to give back to our community, especially in the current climate of cuts to social programs.

  3. I'm so sorry that I missed this. I live over in Santa Rosa but would have loved to have made the journey for this tour. And I wish that we had something like this here. Do you have plans for a tour in 2011. Thanks.

  4. Thanks Apron Thrift Girl! We have lots of plans for 2011. Whether or not we have a home tour depends on if we can find willing homeowners :) To keep it interesting, we're looking at a different part of town for the next time.

  5. Any news on a 2011 tour? Our friends from LA had so much fun that they are wanting to come up again this summer's tour.

  6. Thanks Will - we're so glad to hear you and your friends had a great time. We look forward to the next tour. At the moment, SacMod is in the process of regrouping for more board members this year and will be doing smaller events. The next one is a screening of Visual Acoustics at the Crocker Art Museum on April 7th, 2011. Director Eric Bricker will be there.
